Willem Jacob Hagendoorn, 88, passed away December 20th due to complications from COVID-19. He will be buried in a private service at Evergreen Cemetery and Mausoleum (Louisville, KY).
Willem was born in Holland and lived through WWII as a young boy. After his service in the Dutch Army, Willem immigrated to America and began a career in engineering. He amassed 22 patents in a career that spanned over 60 years at G.E., A.A.F. and his own business, Air Action Systems International. Willem believed life should be an adventure. He enjoyed traveling the world, car drives through the country, his time on the river, his visits with family, and of course a good glass of Riesling! He was a remarkable man who will be missed by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jan and Adriana Hagendoorn, his wife, Barbara Hagendoorn, and his granddaughter, Sara RoBards.
He is survived by his brother John Hagendoorn (Cory) and his Sister Ria Luban (Theo) as well as his nieces and cousins throughout Europe.
He is also survived by children, Tanja Schmitt, Michelle Glancy (Mo), Robert RoBards (Sandy), Robin Gagel (Cliff) and Lee Hagendoorn (Toni). Surviving grandchildren Andrea Winter (Alex), Michael Schmitt, Kaylyn RoBards, Haley Hornback, Houston Hornback, Jaden Hagendoorn and Hadley Hagendoorn. Surviving Great Grandchildren Aaron and Andrew Winter.
A celebration of Willem's life will take place later next year and that information will be shared once plans are finalized.
