Edward C. Huff Sr returned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, at the age of 88 after a heroic and valiant battle throughout the final chapter of his story here on earth. Ed was born in Louisville, Kentucky, to Henry and Ethel Huff and he had 2 brothers and 3 sisters that he loved and was ferociously protective of.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Edward Jr and Anthony Sr and three of his siblings.
Ed is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 66 years, Lenore; his children, Teresa (Mike), Debra, Shirley (Rick), George (Rhonda) and Ron (Jan); 14 grandchildren, whom he absolutely adored and doted upon; brother, John (Shirley); sister, Norma and many great-grandchildren.
At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Army; he fought in the Korean War and was a decorated Corporal at the end of his service in the Army. Following his service in the Army, Ed joined the U.S. Coast Guard where he began to pursue his interests in electricity and mechanics as an Electricians Mate. After his military career he and his family returned to Louisville, Kentucky to put down roots.
Ed devoted himself to his family, from ensuring they attended Mass every Sunday at Holy Name Church to his leadership as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 66. He spent his life teaching his children what it meant to be good stewards in their community.
He started his career at BF Goodrich as a Machinist Helper and with his hunger for education he moved up the ranks and retired from Zeon Chemicals as an Instrument Technician. During his 30 plus years he was an avid union member of IAMAW and spent time serving as a Union Steward. He was presented the Gold Veterans Award from the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers for loyalty and service to fellow workers. While Ed was proud of his accomplishments in the work and union forces if you were to ask him what his greatest accomplishment was he would say his family, whom he always reminded to “treat others how you want to be treated” and “do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done”.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 12, 2021, at Legacy Funeral Home – Nunnelley Chapel, 4327 Taylor Blvd., Louisville, KY, from 10am – 12:30pm with graveside services beginning at 1:30pm at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, 2501 N Dixie Blvd, Radcliff, KY.
